Excire's AI aesthetic scoring is impressive technology. It analyzes composition, exposure, sharpness, and other technical factors to rank your images automatically. For certain workflows — especially high-volume work where “good enough” is the goal — this can be a huge time saver.

But AI culling has inherent limitations. The algorithm doesn't know that the slightly underexposed frame is actually the one where your subject's expression is perfect. It doesn't understand that the “messy” composition was intentional. It optimizes for technical correctness, not creative intent.

Selekt takes a different approach: we don't try to choose for you. Instead, we make the manual selection process so fast that AI auto-culling becomes unnecessary. With scene grouping, keyboard shortcuts, and auto-advance, most photographers can cull 1,000+ photos in under an hour while staying in complete control.

Excire is designed to either replace Lightroom's cataloging entirely (with Excire Foto) or enhance it (with Excire Search as a plugin). If you're already deep in the Lightroom ecosystem, Excire Search adds AI search and culling without changing your workflow. The standalone version is for photographers who want to escape Lightroom entirely.
