Selekt vs Adobe Lightroom

Since June 2026, Lightroom and Lightroom Classic include Assisted Culling, so the choice is no longer about whether you get AI help. It is about where you cull: inside the catalogue you edit in, or in a dedicated first pass that hands selected files and metadata onward.

Compare the plan you would actually use.

Selekt’s free plan includes unlimited culling and export, on-device quality scoring, and cloud AI for 100 photos a month. Pro costs A$16 a month (about US$11) and makes cloud AI unlimited for everyday shooting, with 10 GB of storage. See Selekt’s current plans →

Adobe lists the Lightroom plan at US$11.99 a month on an annual contract billed monthly, including Lightroom Classic and 1 TB of cloud storage. In Australia the same plan was A$18.99 a month including GST. Check annual commitment, cancellation terms, and storage before purchase.

Try this before choosing

Use the same shoot in both apps.

  1. Choose a representative folder. Include your usual RAW files, a burst, a difficult lighting situation, and photographs you already know you would keep. Use a backed-up copy.
  2. Finish a real selection. Does Assisted Culling inside your Lightroom catalogue simplify the job, or does a separate first pass keep rejected frames, previews, and catalogue clutter out of your editor?
  3. Complete the handoff. Open the exported selects in your editor. Check ratings, sidecars, RAW/JPEG pairing, and the amount of manual cleanup. Judge the whole workflow, not just the initial import.

A repeatable test on your own files is more useful than an unsupported claim that one app is universally faster.
